Friday Fun Day

Today we created some vege garden art looking under the dirt and on top.  We drew a carrot, beetroot and potatoes (all plants with roots and veges that grow under the dirt).  We then crayoned and dyed them.  We LOVE them and think they look yummy enough to eat.

Our very clever Room 3 reader, Aria, read us a story in the library today.  It was fabulous and we all enjoyed listening to her read to us.
Happy Weekend!

Busy Us!

Mrs Ray went on a science course and she came back with some neat experiments we are going to try.  The first one was a crazy balloon that was nearly impossible to catch!  Inside the blue balloon was a smaller balloon filled with water.  We worked out it was hard to catch and throw because the heavy balloon inside pushed the lighter balloon off it course.

Our cress heads are growing so quickly now (they measure 2 little cubes high).  They even bent to go towards the light so we turned them around.

We also planted Jack and The Beanstalk climbing beans this week.  We made a castle and cloud and we look forward to watching them grow.  We think they might grow beans!

Midnight the Lamb

We had a visit from Mrs Phillips Lamb called Midnight.  She was so friendly and we loved patting her.  "She feels warm and fluffy and smells like a farm", said Jake.

Gingerbread Horses To Sell & Happy Birthday Tayla

On Friday we had a birthday girl!! Tayla turned 6 and we were very happy singing to her in the morning and seeing that beautiful smile she does.

We also decorated our Gingerbread Horses that we have made to sell and raise money for Riding for the Disabled.  We have to sell 40 biscuits at $2 each so we were very busy making them look pretty.

It would be fabulous if each child could purchase their two cookies that they did, this week (27th) .  They are super delicious....we promise.  Thank you so much.

Comparing our heights and Growing Hair!

On Thursday we were given the task to compare our heights with our buddies using equipment from around the room.  Some of us chose to use blocks or books but most decided to use cubes that joined together.  We found out that some partners were very similar or even the same height as us and even counted all the cubes to see how tall we were.  We are all getting very clever at using maths talk.

We also planted some Cress seeds into potting mix and into our funny face cups with Carol's help.  We think it may grow into funny hair but we will have to wait and see.

New Maths Puzzle Fun

Hilary gave us a new number puzzle and we love it!  We paired up and had to find all the pieces to match the number.  Some of us were very quick!

Happy Birthday Olivia & Growing Carrot Tops

Today is Olivia's 6th birthday and we are very happy she celebrated it with us.  We have so many clever 6 year olds now!

Look what arrived on our science table this morning when we arrived.

We wonder how they got here and what they might grow into?

Aria thinks grass might come out from the carrot tops.
Abi thinks that they will grow into big proper carrots.
Madi thinks they will grow into weeds.
Harry thinks the paper towels might break.
Koby thinks flowers might come out.
Olivia thinks that leaves might grow.
Noah thinks it will take along time to grow into a whole carrot because it has been cut.
Liam thinks they might grow into real carrots.
Jake thinks that they might grow leaves on top.
Ocean thinks they might grow into lettuce.
Stefan thinks maybe they will grow into an apple.

What does it need to grow?

Aria thinks it needs water.
Ocean thinks it needs sun.
Stefan thinks it needs soil so do you still think it will grow on paper?

What might they give us?

Aria thinks they will give us whole carrot.
Olivia thinks it will make juicy and big carrots.

Lets watch them grow.......

Term 3!

Welcome back to Term 3 in Room 3!  We all had such a wonderful holiday and it was so nice to hear about all these neat things we did, today.

We had two birthdays to celebrate, Ocean and Madi, and a big welcome to Jake who joins us.

This term our topic inquiry is GROWTH and today for maths we began a week of measurement by reading Jack and the Beanstalk.  We discovered a letter and footprints inside the book from the Giant! !!!     We had to find things in the room that were taller/longer, shorter and the same as the Giants footprints.  We learnt what estimating was (to guess) and we guessed our heights before testing them.  Then we had to order ourselves from shortest to tallest.  We enjoyed this.

In the last block we looked at what the difference between a question and a comment was.  We then learnt about the white thinking hat (de Bono) and answered the questions on it to begin our growth inquiry.  We were so busy today!

I have added the Term three newsletter to Notices/Reminders Tab

Learning a New App

We are very lucky to have ipads in our class so yesterday we had a go at learning the app called Puppet Pals.  We created our own puppet stories.
