Problem Solving, Kung fu Puncuation and Dino Wondering

This week we have begun to look at problem solving in maths.  We have been learning that the answer is not the important part of problem solving, it is how you get there.  We have looked at four ways to solve a problem, guess and check, drawing a picture, using materials and acting it out.  Here we are solving our dinosaur problem together.

                                               Acting it out

We also tried some Kung Fu Punctuation during our shared book.

In the last block we began our Dinosaur inquiry with some great discussions.

Busy Bee Friday

Fridays are always busy in Ruma Toru.  Here is some of what we got up to:

Koby brought in his Great Grandad's very precious WW2 medals.

We had our first time together with our buddies from room 2.  They helped us with our poem, phonics and publishing colouring in.

Some of our fabulous Autumn writing in our publishing folders.

Autumn tree art created with paints and the back end of our paintbrushes.

We always love our choosing time on Friday afternoons, especially dressing up!

Library and computer time exploring         Our poppy seeds sprouted!
                                 our class blog.

Have a lovely long weekend with your family.

Kelly Sports

Today we had Kelly Sports coaches come to show us how much fun we can have doing sports, and at their after school programme.  Look at all those smiles!

The Ruru team have created a lovely tribute to our ANZACS at the front of the school.  The names on the crosses are those of Hamilton soldiers who lost their lives at Gallipoli. Can you spot the hot air balloon?

Autumn Writing and Dancing up a Storm

Today we read some Autumn stories and then wrote own own reasons why we like the season.  We used some describing words on the TV to help us.

Tayla working hard on her story.

Today the Tui team had our first dance lesson with Kate from Footsteps.  We are dancing once every week and managed to learn one neat dance today called 'Around the World'.

Day One Term 2

Welcome back to term 2 in Room 3.  We are very excited about our busy term coming up.

We began our day sharing about our holidays and displaying where we went on our New Zealand map. We were very busy!

After writing, reading and maths we talked about ANZAC day on Saturday and planted our own Flanders Field Poppies to remember our NZ soldiers. We look forward to watching them grow and planting them with the rest of the school.
